Dave Slaggert joins ESPN 100.9-FM as a basketball and football analyst. Slaggert enters his ninth season calling SVSU football with JJ Boehm in 2009, and the crew is calling the games on ESPN 100.9-FM for a first season. The 2009-10 season will be his second calling SVSU and high school basketball on ESPN 100.9-FM.
He has also been a long time radio and TV broadcaster for high school athletics in the Saginaw and Detroit areas.
Before becoming a broadcaster, Slaggert served the Saginaw Public School district for 32 years as a teacher, coach, and counselor, retiring in 2002. A multi-sport coach, Slaggert led teams in 25 of his 32 years of teaching, coaching basketball, football, tennis, golf, and softball. In 1999, his boys basketball team reached the Michigan state finals, a team led by current NBA star Jason Richardson. He won the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Class A Coach of the Year award that same year.
As a broadcaster, Slaggert has received the Michigan Associated Press Class II Best Live Sports Radio Broadcast Award 4 times – in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005. Slaggert has also received the Saginaw County Golden Apple Award, a prestigious award given annually to one outstanding teacher in Saginaw County.
Slaggert received a master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Physical Education/Recreation in 1972, after receiving his bachelor of education from the school in 1971.
He has been married 36 years to his wife Lynda, and they have two adult children: Jill and Stacy.
